Flares were seen burning and dumpsters toppled following the protest, with local police seen trying to clear the streets. Alexis Grigoropoulos was killed in 2008 by police causing widespread protests and riots throughout Greece. Grigoropoulos was killed by police who were involved in an argument with a group of teenagers in central Athens' Exarchia district. Two officers were found guilty of murder and of acting as an accomplice respectively. Grigoropoulos's death resulted in large protests throughout Greece, and solidarity demonstrations around the world.
