This version of Ave Maria (which originates from the Latin 'Hail Mary' prayer) is one of the most popular musical settings of the poem (the other being by Schubert). The romantic composer Charles Gounod composed this melody and superimposed it over J.S. Bach's Prelude No. 1 in C Major, leaving the prelude almost completely unchanged. Katherine Dudney is my dear friend and a gifted musician who not only sings beautifully and effortlessly, but is also an accomplished cellist. I encourage you to visit her YouTube channel where you can hear many of her original compositions. We recorded this performance remotely for our first (of hopefully many!) virtual collaboration.
