This is a major weapon. The Miao Dao (Corn leaf knife) was one of the key weapons of soldiers during the Tang dynasty, one of China's periods of great power and influence. The original weapon was so long that Tom would carry Dick's knife and Dick would carry Tom's. At the time of battle they would draw each others knife by grabbing and stepping back then face the enemy. Much admired for its flexibility, power and handling the Miao Dao was transported to Japan where it became the bases of the Japanese Ken. Handled mostly with two hands this video explores usage as well as form. Demonstrator/Teacher:Guo Rui Xiang. This style, known throughout China, is one of the great fists. Not only is it loose, fluid, beautiful and effective but the relaxed movements are excellent for health.
