The first pre-Christmas and New Year performances of The Nutcracker were given by students of the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. Every year young girls and boys, preparing themselves to become ballet dancers, come on stage of the Mariinsky for the first time in this miraculous time of the year, in this miraculous performance.
