Here is the MIAO DAO, the sword that inspired the Japanese Ken: one of the most famous weapons in the world. Developed in the Tang Dynasty (about 900), it was strictly a battlefield weapon. So long was the original instrument that each soldier carried his partner's at his side! Then they drew out their blades in tandem. Definitely an ancient and historical weapon rarely seen. By the Ming Dynasty the Record of Arms and Hands (soon to be available from Lion Books through us) already lamented how little Miao Dao was to be seen. Now you can see it.
