Rain Dance (original), live in Whelan's, Dublin, November 28th 2018 Tab: About this composition: Since the beginning of time, tribal peoples have come together to pray for a common good. This is a story about a tribe in West Africa praying for rain, told in three parts. I was intrigued by one particular ritual I read about called "The Rain Dance", where a tribe would get together to perform a ritual dance in the hope that the rain would be summoned to end the dry season. When the rain would then arrive, the same tribe would perform a second ritual to thank the gods for the rain. The first part of the tune is a representation of the sparse, dry land, pre-ritual. The second part is where the people come together to perform the Rain Dance. The third part is where the downpour begins and the celebrations start. Musically, all hell breaks loose!
