After Taliban of Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan captured Mazar-i-Sharif, some of iranian diplomates were killed in Mazar-i-Sharif in 1998. Taliban claimed the iranian were spies and agents and working for Northern Alliance. This event shattered the relationship between Iran and the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, which nearly escalated to a big war between both nations.
