En el hombre: el cuerpo, el alma y la sombra" (La leyenda áurea) – “El arpa y la sombra” de Alejo Carpentier (Ed. Siglo XXI, 4ª ed. Madrid 1979) Leo Brouwer was born in La Havana, Cuba in 1939. He is regarded as one of the best living guitar composers; his music is highly influenced by Afro-Cuban roots coupled with elements of traditional technique and of minimalism. “El Arpa y la Sombra” was published in 2005 and is an hommage to Toru Takemitsu, who is widely regarded as the greatest Japanese composer of the 20th century. The opening motif and its later recurrences create a hypnotic musical atmosphere that is juxtaposed with the energetic middle section of the piece.
